Frequently asked questions

Do I need to book Tianmen Mountain in advance?

Yes — real-name advance booking is required, via the official WeChat account "张家界天门山景区"; tickets are released daily at 08:00, and peak season books out, so reserve 3–5 days ahead (some pages say 1–3 days) and take an early slot (07:00–08:00). Foreigners can book: full passport details must be given at booking, and the physical passport is scanned at the gate (ID card preferred; passport or other valid ID accepted with manual verification). Note: from 13 Oct 2026 the city-side lower-to-mid cableway section is suspended for upgrading; only the C-line route (Tianmen Cave express cableway + 7-stage escalator) is sold and A/B line packages are withdrawn — check before relying on a main-cableway ticket.
